I was the shy girl in the wrong clothes. The girls at school never let me forget it. I went home, didn't tell my mother, and just stopped wearing the dress she'd saved up for. I was nine.
I spent the next forty years making sure no one could ever make me feel that way again. I learned clothes with my hands. I knew I could build something real, for women like us. I just never believed I was allowed.
Two years ago, I stopped asking permission.
